Under Dubya as Carpenter puts it,the deficit went down until it was under $300 B.

Democrats took over Congress in 2006 and it began to go back up, then the 2008 housing collapse occured. Democrats raised spending and then when in control voted for the so called "Bush" tax cuts. Democrat control of Congress is the key to deficits NOT who is in the White House Mr Carpenter. If you look up who controlled Congress during the low deficit years, it was usually Republicans. Under Reagan, dems controlled the House and Senate until Republicans won a majority. Take note Paul, the deficit goes down then they control the Senate.
